The National and State Survey of Child Adolescent Well-Being (NSSCAW) is a
long-term study ordered by Congress. This study was first authorized in 1996
under the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act
and is currently authorized by the Social Security Act § 429 [42 U.S.C.
628b]. It looks at the health and well-being of children and families
involved with the child welfare system. Findings will inform federal, state,
and local child welfare policies and practices. NSSCAW is sponsored by the
Administration for Children and Families (ACF) within the U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services.
